Former EMI Australia chief to lead Warner Bros and Parlophone in the region
By Chris Cooke | Published on Tuesday 21 January 2014
The former Chairman of EMI in Australia, Mark Poston, is returning to the record industry after a year away from the business by joining Warner Music down under, reporting in to the mini-major’s Aussie MD Tony Harlow, who originally recruited Poston into EMI way back in the day.
As previously reported, Poston departed EMI Australia almost exactly a year ago ahead of the firm’s integration with Universal Music, following the mega-major’s acquisition of the former British record company in 2012, with the aim of taking some time out.
With that time now fully taken, he is returning as MD of Warner Bros in Australia, a job that will reunite Poston with some of the artists he worked with back at EMI, as the division will handle down under the Parlophone roster that Warner bought off Universal as part of its EMI takeover.
On taking over the reins of Warner Bros and Parlophone in Australia, Poston told Billboard: “I’m over the moon. You couldn’t find two more iconic labels. We’ve got a great release schedule on both labels, a great line-up and incredible history”.
On his year away, he added: “It was a scary and exciting time to walk away from EMI after thirteen years and take some time out for me. I had no idea if I would come back to the industry, or what I was going to do. I couldn’t be more happy with the way it’s worked out”.
