Mistrial in G-Unit murder case
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 11 March 2014
The trial of James Rosemond over claims that he had a member of 50 Cent’s entourage killed ended in mistrial last week after the jury failed to reach a verdict.
The former boss of New York-based music company Czar Entertainment, Rosemond is currently serving a life sentence after being found guilty of using that business as a front for a major drug trafficking operation. The same month he was convicted for the drug crimes, June 2012, Rosemond was also charged over the 2009 death of G-Unit affiliate Lowell Fletcher. It was alleged that the former hip hop mogul arranged for Fletcher to be murdered following an altercation with his son.
Rosemond’s trial on these charges began last month, with the jury retiring to deliberate on 4 Mar. However, on Friday the judge called a mistrial, after jurors were unable to agree a verdict. According to New York Daily News, the stalemate stemmed from one juror’s refusal to consider the testimonies of a number of the prosecution’s witnesses, who were serving prison sentences, on the grounds that “all people in prison are liars”.
It is not yet clear if there will be a retrial.
