Approved: Marina And The Diamonds – Froot

Weird is so ‘in’ in pop right now, and so into this post-‘Chandelier/’Fancy’/’Royals’ chart-scape, drops ‘Froot’, the tempting first single by Marina Diamandis, aka Marina And The Diamonds, in a long time.
Sloshing over with a disco-rhythmic stomp and all the possible lyrical flips on fruit ripening and souring v love blossoming and fading that I can think of – and a cart-load more on top of that – it finds Marina in a sensual and snappy mood, singing lines like “Good things come to those who wait / But I ain’t in a patient phase”. And hey, maybe with ‘Froot’ she’s banking on that big win at the singles slots / let’s hope it doesn’t prove a ‘lemon’ for her, etc.
