LeeFest taking gap year, back in 2016
By Aly Barchi | Published on Wednesday 7 January 2015
Festival-that-started-as-an-illegal-garden-party LeeFest is to take a year off in 2015 – sort of like Glastonbury does with its ‘fallow year’ scheme – before moving to a new, bigger site in 2016.
The charitable fest, which was invented in 2006 by a then sixteen year old Lee Denny in his parents’ garden in Beckenham, has since grown in size to a 2500-capacity weekender with camping, headlined last year by The Cribs, Frightened Rabbit and Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip.
Denny and Team LeeFest now say that: “After an amazing five years the event has outgrown its current home at Highams Farm, and the time has come to move on”.
Confirming this will mean taking a year off, they explain in a statement: “We’re gutted that we won’t get to see you all this summer, but this will serve to make LeeFest all the more awesome. The festival is still being run entirely by volunteers, despite its unbelievable growth, so we often don’t get a chance to work on the big picture stuff. This is a unique opportunity for us to make LeeFest more sustainable, more creative and even more ambitious in the long term”.
Lee and friends add they will confirm details of LeeFest 2016, the festival’s tenth edition, “as soon as possible”.
