Dre settles over unapproved Chronic release

Dr Dre’s litigation against the current owners of the Death Row label has been concluded with a confidential out of court settlement. A court hearing had been planned for this week to discuss what damages the hip hopper was due after the label breached a contract in making his album ‘The Chronic’ available for download without his express permission.
As previously reported, a court ruled in April that Death Row owners WIDEawake had breached an old contract between the producer and the hip hop label by selling ‘The Chronic’ via services like iTunes. What damages Dre should get – there had been talk of him getting 100% of the royalties generated by the digital release – was what was due to be discussed in court this week.
According to the Associated Press, Dre’s people filed a notice of settlement with the LA courts yesterday afternoon. The Death Row digital release of the seminal 1992 album is no longer available via the digital stores we checked.
