Anna Von Hausswolff

Anna Von Hausswolff’s music was already steeped in high drama, but somehow she has managed to step things up a level on her third album, ‘The Miraculous’, which is released through City Slang on 13 Nov.

The new record’s tense and grandiose atmosphere is aided in no small part by Von Hausswolff’s decision to record on a 9000-pipe organ, which, as you might expect, creates something of an imposing sound. From there, doomy guitars, formidable drums and Von Hausswolff’s powerful, reverb-drenched vocals are layered up to staggering effect.

This was shown perfectly on the first two singles from ‘The Miraculous’, the eleven minute Black Sabbath-esque ‘Come Wander With Me/Deliverance’ and the slow-marching ‘Evocation’. Meanwhile, the latest track to be released form the album, ‘An Oath’, offers a lighter, slightly more stripped-back version of her sound.

Catch Anna Von Hausswolff live (though with a few less than 9000 pipes) at Oslo in Hackney on 8 Dec.
