Igor Volk

‘Voice’, the debut single from this London-based artist and musician from the former USSR, features the best whistling on a pop tune since Peter, Bjorn & John’s ‘Young Folks’.

Igor Volk also doesn’t sound a million miles from the spiky pop sass of New Young Pony Club, which is not entirely surprising since he used to be their bassist. With some shimmering New Order synths to give a subtle yet glacial futurist sheen to the obligatory post-punk stylings, it would be a perfect early summer anthem, were we actually having one.

The single, taken from an as-yet untitled forthcoming album, is out now on Fools Paradise Records. The accompanying video by upcoming Polish director Dawid Krepski proves he, like Volk, is also a talent to watch.
