Approved: Lubomyr Melnyk
By Andy Malt | Published on Monday 20 May 2013
Virtuoso pianist and pioneer of a style of playing termed ‘continuous music’, named for its continuous, unbroken stream of sound, Lubomyr Melnyk will perform two shows at London’s Village Underground venue this evening.
The shows are part of a brief European tour to promote his new album, ‘Corollaries’, which was produced by fellow contemporary composer Peter Broderick and released by Erased Tapes. It’s a busy year for Melnyk, who also has a new album of improvised work with guitarist James Blackshaw out on Important Records.
Tonight, Melnyk will also be performing with a collaborator, though a non-musical one on this occasion. Painter Gregory Euclide will join him on stage to create new artworks as Melnyk plays.
For an idea of how that might work, watch the below video of Euclide painting the artwork for the cover of ‘Corollaries’, and below that a video fo Melnyk performing live. Or, you know, you could just go to one of the shows.
