Approved: Magda Drozd
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 12 November 2019
Sound artist Magda Drozd is set to release her debut album, ‘Songs For Plants’, next month through Swiss label Präsens Editionen. The record sees her use synths, guitar, violin, voice and… cacti across eleven tracks.
For the more unusual of her instrument choices, Drozd used state of the art technology to sample the sounds of different cacti. Although her aim was less about harnessing new sounds, rather raising “questions about authorship” and “the absurdity of the relentless pursuit of new sonic sources in contemporary experimental music”.
In her mockery of experimental music, however, she’s also managed to make some really great experimental music. The addition of violin to her electronic sounds in particular brings a warmth to the music.’
Songs For Plants’ is out on 6 Dec. Listen to a track from it, ‘Painkiller’, here:
