Approved: Moiré

Dark, brooding and introspective, and at times a little obtuse, Moiré’s music is at times a little hard to get a handle on. But in many ways, that’s the appeal.

Following on from last year’s ‘Never Sleep’ EP and the more recent ‘BBOY 202’ single, this week the London-based producer releases his debut album, ‘Shelter’, through Ninja Tune/Werkdiscs.

Given more space to work in, the record ranges wildly in style, from some quality stripped down tech in ‘Dali House’, to the 4/4 thump of ‘Hands On’. Which wouldn’t be out of place in a Kerri Chandler set. The glitchiness of ‘Stars’ and ‘Rings’ keeps this vibe running, showing some possible influences from Autechre and Herbert’s Wish Mountain moniker.
