Approved: Oh Land – My Boxer

Oh Land

It feels like I’ve written Approved pieces about Oh Land a lot already. Actually, I have. Well, a few, at least. But listening to new track ‘My Boxer’, she now seems a long way from the artist I first wrote about in 2010. Back then she was making dusty, light jazz-influenced pop, while for her 2011 eponymous second album she moved more towards a mainstream pop sound, though with an experimental edge that stopped her from quite crossing over.

For many artists, the taste of at least some mainstream success might convince them to have another go, by this time going the whole pop hog. However, the first track to be released from ‘Wish Bone’, her third album, ‘My Boxer’, suggests that it’s the experimental side of Oh Land’s songwriting that she’s decided to ramp up.

Working with Dave Sitek of TV On The Radio’s Federal Prism label in the US, with Sitek also mixing much of the new album, ‘My Boxer’ is co-written and produced by Dan Carey, who also worked on some of the best tracks on second long player ‘Oh Land’. Check it out here:
