Artist News CMU Approved Releases
Approved: Quinquis
By Andy Malt | Published on Thursday 2 December 2021
Émilie Tiersen worked for a number of years as Tiny Feet, releasing two albums – 2014’s ‘Tiny Feet’ and 2017’s ‘As An End To Death’. She now reemerges as Quinquis, adopting her maiden name for a more electronic-focussed project.
Newly signed to Mute, she has released her first track as Quinquis, ‘Adkrog’, which translates as ‘Start Again’. Despite losing the acoustic instrumentation of her earlier work, and instead opting for gently pulsating synths under her voice, she says that the song has its roots in the natural world.
“It’s about finding the energy in environment and nature”, she explains. “When I was feeling desperate, I sat outside and I prayed for nature to give me some answers. This song is about that – if you just let go then nature gives you an answer”.
You can catch Quinquis play a headline show at St Pancras Old Church on 16 Jan, following a handful of UK shows supporting Yann Tiersen the same week.
