The follow up to their debut single, the also approved ‘Girls’, this EP from Rainer (vocalist Rebekah Raa and producer Casually Here, aka Nic Nell) continues in a similarly impressive vein.
Like the best song Junior Boys never wrote for the Sugababes, the title track deploys hypnotic dubstep-inflected pop infused with an air of melancholy resignation to devastating effect.
‘Hope’ starts innocuously but builds into an epic ballad amid military drum rolls and swelling orchestration, before unexpectedly upping the tempo, even incorporating choirs and tropical percussion to render achingly beautiful cinematic pop music.
