Approved: So Below – Drift
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 2 September 2015
There’s not a lot of context to go on with So Below. She’s from New Zealand and has apparent links to other local acts like Taste Nasa, Space Above and The Naked & Famous. And there’s this track, ‘Drift’, which has been getting a lot of blog-based attention while the Approved column was on its summer holiday.
Of course, the risk of writing about a lone track posted by a new artist on SoundCloud, no matter how good it may be, is that everything that follows will be a disappointment. But this is one such case where I don’t care. Even if nothing else ever appears on the So Below SoundCloud page, it’ll have been a good run. ‘Drift’ is a dark, tightly produced pop song that creeps slowly into your consciousness.
