Approved: The Wit And Wisdom Of Nigel Farage
By Andy Malt | Published on Thursday 9 April 2015
To coincide with General Election week, on 4 May Alcopop! Records is set to release a single by the one and only Nigel Farage. Yes, the UKIP leader. It will be called ‘The Wit And Wisdom Of Nigel Farage’. It will be entirely silent. The B-side will be a remix by Enter Shikari.
The release is a homage to Stiff Records’ 1980 parody release ‘The Wit And Wisdom Of Ronald Reagan’, which featured 40 minutes of silence over two sides of vinyl. Alcopop! founder Jack Clothier explains: “We’ve always thought that Stiff Records’ Reagan record was about the best thing that’s ever happened, and it felt like it was the right time to take a leaf out of their book”.
He continued: “We’re not a massively political label, and we’re not trying to tell people who to vote for. We’re just genuinely terrified at what could happen to this country if people listen to the slick, media savvy cult of Farage rather than actually looking at his policies. So anything we can do in our small way to make people question his political motives is something we’re delighted to be involved in”.
This isn’t Alcopop!’s first brush with UKIP, of course. Earlier this year, Alcopop! Records had a run in with the party when Clothier managed to buy the domain name of its official website when it appeared to lapse. Unfortunately, the site was restored to UKIP before it could become a homepage for the United Kingdom Indie Parties Party.
A proportion of proceeds from the sale of the Farage record will go to the Migrant Rights Network. Listen to the whole release in full here:
