Basshunter cleared of sexual assault

Basshunter, real name Jonas Altberg, has been cleared of sexually assaulting two women after a performance in Scotland last year.
As previously reported, the producer was accused of assaulting two female fans at Kitty’s nightclub in Kirkcaldy where he was performing last December. He appeared in court last January to enter a not-guilty plea, before the full trial last month. He was acquitted on Tuesday at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.
Sheriff Maxwell Hendry said that evidence given by the two women was “riddled with inconsistencies and improbabilities”, while criticising them for going to the papers before the police with their allegations. He added: “I consider in this case the witnesses were neither credible nor reliable. They ignored good advice given to them to contact police and instead contacted a newspaper before giving statements”.
