BBC announces Terry Wogan tributes and Westminster Abbey memorial service
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 7 September 2016
The BBC has announced a number of programmes on BBC One and BBC Radio 2 paying tribute to Terry Wogan, who died earlier this year. The shows will coincide with a memorial service at Westminster Abbey on 27 Sep, marking the 50th anniversary of his first radio broadcast for the BBC.
“Terry Wogan was one of the nation’s most loved presenters”, says BBC Director General Tony Hall. “He had a unique and welcoming style combined with a mischievous sense of humour and his personality will shine through in these programmes”.
The snappily-titled ‘A Service Of Thanksgiving For The Life And Work Of Sir Terry Wogan KBE DL’ will be broadcast between 12-1pm on Radio 2, followed by a special edition of the Jeremy Vine show. The radio station will also broadcast ‘Thank You For Being My Friend – A Tribute To Terry Wogan’ over two nights on 26-27 Sep.
Meanwhile, BBC One will air ‘Sir Terry Wogan Remembered: 50 Years At The BBC’, broadcast details for which are still to be announced.
