Bebo not for sale, OK?
By CMU Editorial | Published on Wednesday 28 January 2009
Bebo is not for sale, and I wish you would stop saying they are. Actually, I don’t care. Say what you like.
But a spokesman for the social networking platform has denied rumours that owners AOL are looking into selling the website, which cost them $850 million when they bought it less than a year ago, for a mere $200 million. TechCrunch says AOL execs are disappointed with the performance of the site, and are struggling to integrate it with their other web services.
But a Bebo spokesperson says this: “The whole thing is ridiculous and there is no truth in it at all”.
Asked about plans to better integrate Bebo with other AOL assets, the spokesperson added: “Social Inbox was launched in December and is just the first step in answering that fragmentation problem with Twitter, Flickr, AOL Mail and a recommendation tool. It was the first step and there’s more to come – there’s a lot of stuff to be layered over to build on that”.
