Chumbawamba split
By CMU Editorial | Published on Tuesday 10 July 2012
Chumbawamba have split up, just in case any of you thought they were still together. After 30 years together, and that moment of chart stardom in 1997 when ‘Tubthumping’ went mega (though I always thought ‘Timebomb’ was their best record), the politicised band have announced they have parted ways via their website.
The band write: “That’s it then, it’s the end. With neither a whimper, a bang or a reunion. 30 years of ideas and melodies, endless meetings and European tours, press releases, singalong choruses and Dada sound poetry, finally at an end”.
Adding that it is hard to fully explain why they have called it a day, they noted: “We felt we’d got to a point where what we did as a band – and specifically the writing, recording, touring cycle – wasn’t doing justice to what Chumbawamba set out to do in the first place”.
