Cohen prefers Lang’s Hallelujah
By CMU Editorial | Published on Thursday 18 December 2008
So, with all these versions of Leonard Cohen’s song ‘Hallelujah’ getting some exposure as the new ‘X Factor’ winner version heads for the Christmas number one spot, which version does the man himself prefer?
Well, Alan Pedder, editor of Wears The Trousers magazine, tells us that when he interviewed the singer songwriter’s other half, jazz musician Anjani Thomas, earlier this year, she revealed: “After hearing kd lang perform that song at the Canadian Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2006 we looked at each other and said, ‘well, I think we can lay that song to rest now! It’s really been done to its ultimate blissful state of perfection'”.
“I don’t think I could even try it, because it’s been so magnificently done. Really, I think all the versions out there are such a testament to his songwriting talents, wherever that gift comes from”.
