Concord and Bicycle merge, buy Vanguard and Sugar Hill

Concord Music Group

It’s spring right, so presumably in a fit of spring cleaning the Concord Music Group and Bicycle Music Company have formally merged to create Concord Bicycle Music. Even though I’m pretty sure Concorde was a plane.

The two companies have actually been in common ownership and working very closely together for a while – recently promoted Jake Wisely is overseeing publishing and licensing for both groups, for example – so it makes sense for the two companies to formerly operate as one. So well done one and all.

Now let’s complicate things with an acquisition and a merger. Because Concord Bicycle Music also announced yesterday that it had acquired Vanguard Records and Sugar Hill Records from the Welk Music Group. Kevin Welk will remain as Chief Creative Office of both imprints. Though Sugar Hill will merge with Concord’s Rounder Label Group, of which Sugar Hill Records General Manager Cliff O’Sullivan will become Chief Operating Officer, while Vanguard Records will become part of Concord’s Fantasy Label Group.

Oh, that’s not really complicated at all, is it? And with $100 million raised for additional purchases, we can expect plenty more not at all complicated mergers and acquisitions to come from the Concord Bicycle team. Hurrah!
