Empire’s Steele on touring alone
By CMU Editorial | Published on Monday 7 June 2010
Empire Of The Sun’s Luke Steele has spoken to the BBC about his bandmate’s decision not join him on tour. As previously reported, while Steele has been touring as Empire Of The Sun, the other half of the duo – Nick Littlemore – has not, preferring instead to work on his other studio projects, including Pnau. When Steele first appeared on stages sans his bandmate there was speculation the duo had split, but it seems the pair are still on good terms, despite not seeing much of each other.
However, while Steele is now happy with the idea of touring alone, he admits it came as a bit of a shock when Littlemore first told him he wasn’t going to gig with Empire Of The Sun. Calling that time “pretty emotionally challenging”, he told Newsbeat: “Because you’re there going, ‘What do you mean you don’t want to be on the road?’ It’s kind of like a master chef serving up this new dish they’ve cooked called The Dream and then some kid coming off the street with a machete and shoving it into this steak, picking it up and just laughing watching the blood drip out of it”.
Steele added he now has about 20 tracks ready for a second Empire Of The Sun album. Presumably he’s waiting for a window in Littlemore’s diary to record it.
