Single Review: Gossip – Heavy Cross (Sony/Columbia)
By CMU Editorial | Published on Monday 15 June 2009
Seemingly already destined to be remembered as that band who had that song that was on an advert for that show where everyone has that sort of fun you imagine everyone else at school was having when you were alone, in your room, obsessing over The Smiths and indulging in Wilde, Gossip return, retaining a temper that teases at action, passion and purpose. This is no ‘Standing In The Way Of Control’ though, which, successfully delivered on that promise. ‘Heavy Cross’ never matches up, yet is far too similar to be taken as a risky breakaway. It’s the same tempered ploy, but favours control over chaos. Not one for the playlist of the cool kid’s parties. TM
