Heavenly Planet cancelled
By CMU Editorial | Published on Wednesday 18 March 2009
The inaugural Heavenly Planet Festival, which was scheduled to take place from 10 – 11 Jul in Reading, has been cancelled.
Joint organisers Festival Republic, the local council and WOMAD artistic director Thomas Brooman have blamed the current economic climate for the pulling of the world music event.
Festival Republic’s Melvin Benn said in a statement: “The worsening economic crisis and circumstances beyond our control have been major factors in the final decision”. He and Reading Borough Council have not ruled out the possibility of launching the event at a later date, however, saying that they plan to “monitor the recession and any economic recovery with a view to planning for possible festivals in future years”.
