Jonathan King arrested in Walton Hop Disco child abuse investigation
By Chris Cooke | Published on Friday 11 September 2015
Former music industry mogul Jonathan King was arrested over allegations of historical child sex offences on Wednesday morning.
He was one of three men arrested and later bailed in relation to an ongoing investigation into sexual offences against children at the Walton Hop Disco in Walton-on-Thames in the 1970s and 1980s. According to Surrey Police, specialist officers searched all three men’s properties shortly after their arrest.
Commenting on the development, Detective Chief Inspector Karen Mizzi told reporters: “This is a complex investigation into numerous allegations of sexual abuse and assault dating back over several decades. Our investigation focuses on the Walton Hop Disco, a popular event for youngsters between the 1970s and 1980s, and we are following a number of lines of inquiry”.
King’s long career as a performer, presenter and music industry executive pretty much ended in 2000, of course, after he was arrested in relation to allegations of sexual offences against teenage boys dating back to 1960s. He was subsequently convicted over six of the claims made against him resulting in a stint in jail. King has always maintained he was innocent of the charges for which he was convicted.
