Single Review: Koko Von Napoo – Polly / Agence Blady (Trouble Records)
By CMU Editorial | Published on Monday 1 December 2008
I thought ze French were supposed to be the pioneers of this crazy little thing called dance music. It seems like they’ve been mixing synths and funky basslines for ever, creating sexy pop tunes and shipping them out so the rest of the world can see how good the French are. If this is the case, someone should really have tried to stop Koko Von Napoo stepping outside Paris. There’s root-note-plodding bass, unimaginative guitar, a synth that sounds like it’s trying to creep out kids at a fairground and to be honest, an awful singer. When bands release a double A-side, it tends to suggest they’re really having trouble picking between their favourite songs. I can hardly tell the difference between these two, so I guess I can see where they’re coming from, but I’m pretty sure I’d rather neither of them got released at all. ME
