Madonna is going to do a bit of singing at the BRITs
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 4 February 2015
Madonna will perform live at this year’s BRIT Awards, joining a line-up of Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Paloma Faith, George Ezra, Royal Blood and Take That. Which is pretty good, if you like that sort of thing. And if you don’t like that sort of thing, then why don’t you go and moan about endlessly on some tedious social network? Or just kick a cat.
Apparently it will be the 20th anniversary of the last time Madonna performed at the British record industry’s big awards show. Noting this, BRITs Chairman Max Lousada said: “We’re delighted to bring Madonna back to the BRITs. She’s an icon, an innovator and, above all, an entertainer. Having her as part of the show will guarantee an unforgettable night of music”.
He says “unforgettable”, but I’d completely forgotten that she ever played the BRITs before, and 20 years ago would have been a point when I think I would definitely have been paying close attention to things like that.
Let’s take a trip down memory (or not, as the case may be) lane now and watch Chris Evans make a sub-James Corden gag in his introduction to Her Madge’s 1995 performance of the Björk-penned ‘Bedtime Story’. Or just throw a shoe at a dog instead.
