‘WOW’, an experimental opera based on the ‘rise and fall’ of German R&B sensations Milli Vanilli, will hit BRIC House in Brooklyn, New York, later this month, its director has confirmed.

Talking to DNAinfo, David Levine said that, rather than consisting of MV songs, the show’s score would rework sections of Richard Wagner’s ‘Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg’, which centres on a guild of master singers, composers and musicians.

Levine, who was inspired to begin work on the show by an episode of VH1’s ‘Behind The Music’, sheds light on the erm, ‘work-in-progress’ concept: “The musicians get fed their parts just in time and it’s never the same piece twice. They play it as they receive it which leaves it prone to all kinds of glitchy repetition”.

In technical speak, that idea will apparently translate to a “real-time opera production environment in which the score, libretto, and staging intersect differently during each performance, evoking news ways of thinking and feeling about a story that’s not as simple as it first may seem”.

So that all makes sense. More info on how the heck all this is going to turn out is found here.
