Massive Attack kiss and make up with Tricky

Massive Attack’s Daddy G, real and less silly name Grant Marshall, has revealed that the long-running rift between the duo and former associate Tricky has cooled, and that they may work together again in the future.

Tricky, of course, appeared on Massive Attack’s debut album, ‘Blue Lines’, as well as writing lyrics for two tracks on the follow-up, ‘Protection’, and providing vocals for the track, ‘Karmacoma’. However, he then moved on to concentrate on his solo career (with the lyrics he provided for ‘Protection’ also appearing on tracks on his debut album, ‘Maxinquaye’) after creative differences pushed them apart.

Marshall told BBC 6music: “I did actually ask Tricky to come on board for this album [‘Heligoland’] and there’s talk about him maybe coming on the next album. Things seem like they’ve healed between us and Tricky. It’s been quite well documented how us and Tricky get on, hasn’t it? It’s not that well, but things have changed. Things have softened up. We saw Tricky a couple of weeks ago in Paris and it was quite an amicable meeting after five or six years”.

‘Heligoland’ is due for release on 8 Feb.
