Morrissey tweets not real

By | Published on Monday 19 May 2014

So, if you found yourself getting all excited last week about the arrival of Morrissey on Twitter, well, prepare to unexcite yourself, because it wasn’t him. Despite the little blue-tick-of-assurance seemingly appearing alongside the tweets.

“Hello. Testing, 1, 2, 3. Planet Earth, are you there? One can only hope…” said the first tweet on a verified account called @itsmorrissey. “Follow, follow, follow. Twitter is the perfect metaphor for…something. Dunno what” came next.

But the man himself has announced – via the more-reliable-when-it-comes-to-Mr-Morrissey website True To You – that those tweets had nothing to do with him.

Writing “untwitterably yours”, Morrissey said in a statement: “I would like to stress that I do not have either a Twitter or a Facebook account. I gather that a Twitter account has been opened in my name – as ‘It’s Morrissey’ – but it is NOT Morrissey. I do not know who has opened this recent Twitter account, but please be aware that it is bogus. That’s, of course, if you should remotely care”.

If you don’t remotely care, then feel free not to read any of the preceding 186 words.
