Music Supported Here: The Penny Black Remedy
By CMU Editorial | Published on Friday 23 April 2010
For the next three weeks the CMU Daily will be celebrating the previously reported Music Supported Here campaign, and profiling some of the artists who have backed the initiative.
At the heart of the MSH project is a gallery of ‘music’ logos that incorporate the copyright ‘C’ which have been drawn by each participating artist. We will be featuring a different music logo in the CMU Daily each day, and will invite the artist who created it to introduce themselves and explain why they are supporting the campaign. Along the way we’ll meet some brand new artists, some more established grass roots acts and some pop superstars.
Today’s logo was created by CMU favourites The Penny Black Remedy. Before they tell us why they’re supporting MSH, here’s their artist blurb: “The Penny Black Remedy’s symbiance of darkly comic, unpretentiously intelligent, stubbornly genre defying and catchy songs and their exhilarating live shows has provided them with many highlights; winning the prestigious Gibson Guitar Best Alternative Act at the 2008 UK Indy Awards, headlining The Borderline, Charlotte Street Blues bar and Valkhof Festival (Nijmegen) and the Melkweg (Amsterdam) in Holland; playing a sold-out three night residency in respected London venue The 12 Bar Club and sharing bills with such distinguished acts as The Buzzcocks, Starsailor, Joanna Newsom and Alabama 3 to name a few”.
And here’s why they are supporting MSH: “We think Music Supported Here is a great campaign because it gives fully independent bands like ourselves a collective voice, and that can only be a good thing”.
Look out for another ‘music logo’ and MSH supporting band tomorrow.
