Music Business Association

The US music retail sector’s trade body, the National Association Of Recording Merchandisers, yesterday announced a rebrand that will also see the organisation further expand its remit representing those involved in the creation and sale of music-based products and services. Moving forward the body will be known as the Music Business Association. Which may or may not please those other American trade bodies that already represent other strands of the music industry.

Confirming the name change, the organisation’s President Jim Donio told reporters: “The music industry has changed dramatically over the past decade. More segments of the business than ever before now play an active role in the commerce side of the business, so the name ‘National Association Of Recording Merchandisers’ no longer reflected everyone who can participate in the organisation… for the first time in the organisation’s history, the ‘M’ stands for music”.
