Oxegen short on ‘suitable acts’, won’t take place this year

Irish festival Oxegen will not take place this year, its organiser MCD have confirmed, citing a “lack of suitable headline acts” combined with an increasing financial strain on the event.
Following its first edition in 2004, Oxegen customarily ran in July at the Punchestown Racecourse in County Kildare, bar in 2012 when it took a Glasto-style hiatus. Last year’s festival, which was downsized to two days in August, was headlined by David Guetta and Calvin Harris, and featured mainly dance and pop-type acts. This came in marked contrast to past bills, which gave more space to guitar bands.
Giving notice of the situation on the Oxegen site, MCD writes: “It is with regret that that we announce that Oxegen will not take place this year due to lack of suitable headline acts which combined with the financial demands by local agencies make it no longer viable to stage the festival in its current form”.
