Radio 3 to broadcast Baroque Bieber for Red Nose Day
By Andy Malt | Published on Thursday 14 March 2013
As part of the BBC’s Red Nose Day money-raising activities this Friday, Radio 3 will broadcast a new arrangement of Justin Bieber’s ‘Beauty And A Beat’ for a countertenor, chamber choir and baroque orchestra. Robin Blaze will handle Bieber’s vocals, though no word yet on who will stand in for Nicki Minaj. I guess we’ll find out when it’s broadcast at 1pm.
The performance sits within the Beeb’s current ‘Baroque Spring’ season, which sees the broadcaster examining and reinterpreting music from the Baroque period. As previously reported, the BBC Concert Orchestra collaborated with artists including Goldfrapp’s Will Gregory and producer Matthew Herbert earlier this week at The Roundhouse in London.
As well as this, on Friday Radio 3 presenters will fight it out to have their favourite Baroque piece named ‘Top Of The Baroque’. Read more about that here.
