Sinead O’Connor has been found safe after being reported missing in the US, police have confirmed.

US police reported O’Connor missing and expressed concern for her safety on Monday. The singer reportedly went out for a bike ride in the town of Wilmette, near Chicago, at around 6am on Sunday and did not return.

In a statement to Billboard, local police said yesterday: “The Wilmette Police is seeking to check the well-being of Sinead O’Connor. O’Connor reportedly left the Wilmette area for a bicycle ride yesterday at 6am and has not returned. A caller has expressed concern for her well-being and no other information is available at this time”.

Shortly after she set out on her bike ride on Sunday, an update appeared on O’Connor’s Facebook page seemingly addressed to her eldest son Jake referencing her custody battle with ex-partner Donal Lunny.

Not long after police issued their original statement, O’Connor was found safe, with Wilmette Police saying in a second statement: “She is safe and no longer listed as a missing/endangered person”.
