Solange talks new LP
By Aly Barchi | Published on Friday 2 August 2013
Alt-R&B dawdler Solange’s new LP is approaching (at a snail-like pace) a state at which it’ll be releasable. So that’s okay, provided you don’t mind waiting a while for it.
Talking to Billboard ‘backstage’ at a Brooklyn laundromat, she named Sampha, The Dirty Projectors’ Dave Longsteith and Chairlift’s Patrick Wimberley as collaborators on the TBA disc, adding that the idea is to have it ready by 2014.
Asked as to the exact timeframe, she said: “I’m actually trying to give myself a deadline this time around. One of the pros of being independent is having that space and that time. But it’s also a major con when you don’t set aside a deadline and keep going and keep going. When you have a goal in mind you definitely stay motivated. I’m trying to stay motivated because I know it took four years before my last record came out”.
When LP X is eventually released, it’ll be via Saint Records, the Sony-affiliated label Solange first hinted at back in May.
In the meantime, here she is playing ‘Bad Girls’ at that real live launderette earlier this week:
