The Mighty Boosh announced as UK Record Store Day ambassadors
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 9 April 2019
Organisers of Record Store Day in the UK have announced The Mighty Boosh as ambassadors of the British wing of the international event. As well as talking up record shops, Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding will release the original Mighty Boosh radio show on vinyl as an exclusive Record Store Day release.
“We are approaching singularity, when computers will overtake and replace us”, says Barratt of why they chose to support the event. “Therefore, it suddenly felt prescient to outwit them and somehow save our precious early recordings onto a format that the dawning artificial intelligences will not see as a threat”.
Fielding adds: “People that work in record shops are often obsessed with vinyl and music and bands and can steer you in the right direction and tell you about things that you would never know about. Whereas you can’t do that on the internet. It’s not possible. You want some vinyl expert to tell you about a record you’ve never heard of. That’s the beauty of it”.
Pearl Jam, of course, were named overall RSD ambassadors for 2019 back in February. As far as I’m aware though, they don’t plan to leave the US as the event takes place this Saturday. Even though there’s five of them. Lazy fuckers. I’m sure the Boosh will do us proud over here in the UK though.
Here’s a video message from Barratt and Fielding:
