The National

As you may already be aware, since it was first affirmed last week, The National’s fifth LP, ‘Trouble Will Find Me’, is set to be released via 4AD on 20 May. So there, I hope you’re happy, because I am. Its taping was done at New York’s Clubhouse studio by the band themselves, and mixed by Craig Silvey, Peter Katis and Marcus Paquin.

Vocalist Matt Berninger says: “For the past ten years we’d been chasing something, wanting to prove something. And this chase was about trying to disprove our own insecurities. After touring [2010 LP] ‘High Violet’, I think we felt like we’d finally gotten there. Now we could relax – not in terms of our own expectations but we didn’t have to prove our identity any longer”.

Guitarist/bassist/pianist Aaron Dessner adds: “Our ideas would immediately click with each other. It’s freewheeling again. The songs on one level are our most complex, and on another they’re our most simple and human. It just feels like we’ve embraced the chemistry we have”.

In lieu of a new track, you’ll have to make do with this tracklisting:

I Should Live In Salt
Don’t Swallow The Cap
Sea Of Love
This Is The Last Time
I Need My Girl
Pink Rabbits
Hard To Find
