Vigsy’s Club Tip: The Hot 8 Brass Band at The Duke Of Cumberland, Whitstable
By Paul Vig | Published on Friday 7 December 2018
The Hot 8 Brass Band have just announced tour dates for early next year, where you’ll be able to see them in venue’s like London’s Roundhouse. However, next week you have the chance to catch them somewhere altogether smaller, The Duke Of Cumberland pub in Whitstable.
It might seem a little bit off the beaten track, but you can be there in a little over an hour from various London train stations. Then you can take in the sea air and eat a few oysters before seeing the New Orleans street brass band up close and personal. If you’ve not experienced one of their shows before – with their brassed up covers of tracks like Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ and The Specials’ ‘Ghost Town’ – then this is the time to do it.
They will also play The Loft in Southampton after these two nights in Whitstable, but the oysters swung it for me. Have a pint of the local ale too and get ready to dance.
Thursday 13 Dec and Friday 14 Dec, The Duke Of Cumberland, High Street, Whitstable, Kent, CT5 1AP, 9pm-11pm, £22. More info here.
