Wrongtom reworks Roots Manuva on new album

Two years in the making, Big Dada have announced the release of ‘Duppy Writer’, a collection of Roots Manuva tracks spanning his entire career reworked by the rather brilliant Wrongtom.

Tom was originally only asked to turn in a remix of ‘Buff Nuff’, the first single from Roots’ 2008 album ‘Slime & Reason’. But when he delivered it, the folks at Big Dada were so impressed that they got him to do a few more, and those remixes became the bonus disc that came with that album. The response from fans was big, and so ‘Duppy Writer’ was born.

In creating the album, Tom tried to re-imagine each track as an ‘original’ version from an earlier decade, taking the album back through 80s dancehall, classic reggae and beyond. He and Roots even found time to record a brand new track, ‘Jah Warriors’, which features guest vocals from Ricky Ranking, and will be the album’s first single.

Here’s the tracklist:

Butterfly Crab Walk
Chin Up
Duppy Writer (Skit)
Worl’ A Mine
Big Tings Redone
Jah Warriors
Proper Tings Juggled
Dutty Rut
Dub Decay
Lick Up Ya Foot
Rebuff
Son of Bodda
Motion 82
