Ed Sheeran settles one of his song-theft lawsuits
Fans of Ed Sheeran song-theft lawsuits need to get their whiteboards out, scan down to the listing for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill track 'The Rest Of Our Life' and mark it "settled".
Sheeran co-wrote the song for the country stars with Johnny McDaid, Steve Mac and Amy Wadge. They were sued in the US in January by Australian songwriters Sean Carey and Beau Golden who accused Sheeran et al of "blatantly" copying their 2014 song 'When I Found You'.
In their original legal filing, Cary and Golden alleged that the copying of 'When I Found You' on 'The Rest Of Our Life' is "in many instances, [a] verbatim, note-for-note copying of original elements of [Carey and Golden's] song, and is obvious to the ordinary observer".
The case seemed noteworthy, partly because it was the latest in a number of song-theft lawsuits being pursued against Sheeran, but also partly because of the lawyer who was representing Cary and Golden: a certain Richard Busch.
Busch is the lawyer who successfully represented the Marvin Gaye estate in one of the biggest song theft lawsuits of recent times, ie - the 'Blurred Lines' case. He then followed that up by suing a certain Master Sheeran over the allegation his song 'Photograph' ripped off the Matt Cardle track 'Amazing'. That case was settled out of court.
The judge overseeing the 'Rest Of Our Life' case was told that settlement talks were underway back in July. Then last week legal reps for Carey and Golden told the court that "all parties have agreed in principle" to a settlement deal, terms of which are not known.
Neither side has as yet commented on that settlement beyond the update provided to the court. But assuming it's a done deal, Team Sheeran can instead focus on his other lingering song-theft legal battle which, although not involving any lawyers from the 'Blurred Lines' action, does centre on the allegation that Eddie ripped off a Marvin Gaye track.
Coda hires Tom Taaffe and Anna Bewers from UTA
Booking agency Coda has hired two new agents in the form of Tom Taaffe and Anna Bewers. Both join the agency from rivals UTA.

As well as the new hires, Coda has promoted a number of existing staff.
Andy Clayton and Ryan Penty will become fully-fledged agents in January. They will be replaced as bookers for Alex Hardee by Holly Rowland and Eleanor Ashley. Rebecca Bates will also become booker for Mike Malak, having previously been his assistant.
CMU Insights masterclass summarises and explains all the key developments in music rights in 2018
Tickets have gone on sale for the final CMU Insights training session of 2018, a masterclass looking back at the last twelve months in music copyright. This half-day course allows music industry professionals to get fully up to speed on all the key developments and debates that have occurred in the music rights sector in 2018.
The masterclass is delivered by CMU Managing Director Chris Cooke, who says: "It has been an eventful year in music rights, with major legislative reform in both Europe and the US, plus ongoing debates around termination rights, the evolution of digital and collective licensing, and the impact of the 'Blurred Lines' judgement on plagiarism cases".
"It can be tricky to keep up with all those stories", Cooke goes on, "which is the purpose of this masterclass. In just a few hours I'll tell you everything you need to know, explaining the legal concepts and precedents, and summarising the ongoing debates. For anyone creating, administering, managing or monetising music rights, it's a simple way to stay fully informed".

| Approved: Gola Although releasing her debut UK single now, Gola already has an impressive history behind her in her native Iran. In a country where musicians must apply for government permits in order to perform, with women generally discouraged from taking to the stage, she formed Iran's first all-female band, Orchid. They managed to receive government approval, but under strict conditions. They were only able to perform to other women and their audiences were barred from dancing or singing along. Eventually, she came to the UK, ostensibly to study for a degree, but also with a view to making music without restrictions. Her debut English language single, 'The Line', is a strong piece of R&B-leaning pop, with a message about female empowerment that extends to its Hannah Marshall-directed video. "I wanted a video that can help women understand how powerful they are", says Gola. "The idea that they can have their eyes covered but still see, or have their mouths covered but still have a voice. This is a video about choice". "This track may be about the end of the line", she goes on, "but this is just the beginning". Aerosmith's Joe Perry "alert and responsive" after collapsing at Madison Square Garden
Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has been described as "alert and responsive" after collapsing back stage at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday night.
Perry had appeared at a Billy Joel show at the venue, performing Aerosmith song 'Walk This Way'. According to TMZ, he collapsed after returning to his dressing room, and was attended to by paramedics before being taken a to hospital.
A rep for Perry said in a statement: "Following a guest performance during Billy Joel's show last night at Madison Square Garden, Joe Perry experienced shortness of breath and was treated backstage by paramedics who gave the guitarist oxygen and used a tracheal tube to clear his airway before taking him to a hospital. This morning, Perry remains in the hospital where he is alert and responsive".
Aerosmith are set to celebrate their 50th anniversary next year, with a residency at the Park MGM in Las Vegas.
Cherry Glazerr announce new album and UK shows
Cherry Glazerr have announced that they will release their fourth album, 'Stuffed & Ready' - the follow-up to last year's excellent 'Apocalipstick' - in February.
"I am telling my story of how I feel and where I am in life", says frontwoman Clementine Creevy of the new record. "I've felt the need to explain my feelings, not just state them, but search for why I feel the way I do honestly".
She goes on: "With 'Apocalipstick', I was an over-confident teenager trying to solve the world's problems. With 'Stuffed & Ready', I'm a much more weary and perhaps a more cynical woman who believes you need to figure your own self out first".

Backstreet Boys announce arena tour
The Backstreet Boys have announced a UK and Ireland arena tour for next June. The dates will follow the release of their new album, 'DNA', which is out on 25 Jan.
"When this group started 26 years ago - and through all the highs and lows of our career - we've had to learn it wasn't about us as individuals but about what's best for the group", says the band's Howie Dorough.
"That's what I love about this album", adds Kevin Richardson. "We were able to bring all of our influences and styles into one coherent piece of work. These songs are a great representation of who we are as individuals and who we are as a group. It's our DNA. We're really proud of that".
Brian Littrell chips in: "The journey is ongoing with us and there is so much left to do. We're living the next chapter that hasn't been told yet, and that's exciting".

Pusha T denies big screen Drake diss
Pusha T has denied using a video screen at a festival show on Saturday to insult Drake. The two rappers do have a long-standing rivalry, but Pusha T blamed a "corny ass tech dude" for the overt mid-show diss that occurred this weekend.
The rapper was performing at Tyler, The Creator's Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in LA when at one point the words "FUCK DRAKE" appeared behind him.
Following the show, Pusha T tweeted: "Corny ass tech dude fucking with my screens at Camp Flog Gnaw, I speak for myself and all of you know how I make my statements! Dissing anybody on screen isn't part of my show. Otherwise great festival".
The years-long rivalry between Pusha T and Drake came to a head earlier this year, with a swift trading of diss tracks. Pusha T then declared the whole thing over shortly afterwards, despite having previously promised to keep it going all summer.
