Approved: Mew

Ah, Mew. Good old, dependable Mew. They may not be the fastest moving band in the world, but they’re always ready with something great when you need it the most.

Having left Sony Music two years ago, and then experimented with releasing music via brand partnerships and apps, they eventually reached the conclusion that the best plan of attack was to record an album and just release it. It’s the future, I tell you.

Yesterday they announced that they will release that album, titled ‘+-‘, on 27 Apr, making available the first track from it, ‘Satellites’, on SoundCloud. Featuring the band’s unmistakable sound, the song sits comfortably amongst established Mew classics like ‘Am I Wry? No’ and ‘She Came Home For Christmas’. It also features a line where it sounds like Jonas Bjerre is going to sing “Stephen Fry”, instead of whatever it is he actually says. And that is strangely comforting.

The band have also announced tour dates for May, kicking off at ABC in Glasgow on 17 May, followed by The Ritz in Manchester on 19 May, and finishing up at The Roundhouse in London, where they played their last UK show in 2013, on 20 May.
